Foundation Stage / Key Stage 1

Children will be given a piece of fruit with a drink of water during the morning break. Each child is allocated a bottle with their name on which is filled with water. They are then able to have a drink of water whenever they are thirsty.

Fruit is provided free at present through the government’s National School Fruit Scheme. We have found the fruit scheme to be a great success. It has helped the children to understand the importance of healthy eating. The government recommends that all adults and children eat five portions of fruit and/or vegetables per day. We have found that our children have been much more willing to eat fruit since the introduction of the scheme and many “non-fruit” eaters have joined their friends in enjoying fruit during the morning break.

All children in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to free school dinners. If you wish your child to have a school dinner, please order this in advance. If you would like your child to bring a packed lunch please ensure that it is healthy (no sweets) with a non-fizzy drink in a suitable plastic container. Glass bottles and cans are not acceptable.

Key Stage 2
Hot meals are provided by Dolce and are prepared in our school kitchen. Hot meals must be ordered in advance. Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch in a suitable box along with a child’s flask or carton of drink together with a beaker or straw. All items should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

Parents who receive the following support payments can apply for free school meals for their children: Universal Credit, Income Support, Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance, Child Tax Credit Only – Family income under £16,190, Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Guarantee Element of the State Pension Credit and the Income Related Employment and Support Allowance.

Also, the children run a ‘Healthy School Snack Shop’ at morning break!
